LA84 Foundation and SCMAF
Team with ASEP to Launch Online Course

In an initiative designed to reach 15,000 youth sport coaches over the next five years, the LA84 Foundation and Southern California Municipal Athletic Federation (SCMAF) have partnered with leading coaching education provider American Sport Education Program (ASEP) to offer customized online training to SCMAF coaches. |
| The two-tiered coaching education program features the general coaching course “LA84 Foundation’s Art of Coaching for SCMAF Coaches,” plus sport-specific LA84 Foundation-branded for flag football, basketball, and volleyball. The “Art of Coaching” will is now available to SCMAF coaches. The sport-specific courses will be released in fall 2010. The courses will be made available through the ASEP Web site at www.ASEP.com. Through the sponsorship of the LA84 Foundation, 3,000 coaches per year over the next five years will have the opportunity to take the online courses at no cost. |
LA84 Foundation Launches Weplay Page
The LA84 Foundation has launched a group page on www.weplay.com, a comprehensive youth sports social networking site. Visitors to the Weplay site are able to read LA84 Foundation coaching manuals, learn about Foundation news and events, and exchange information with other group members. “We are excited about the opportunity to work with Weplay,” said Wayne Wilson, LA84 Foundation vice president for education services. “The Weplay site is a great platform for sharing our information with coaches, parents and athletes.” Membership in Weplay is free. There are more than a 250,000 active participants. The site that offers networking opportunities, team management tools and more than 1,000 instructional skills and drills. |

David L. Wolper received the Southern California Committee for the Olympic Games William May Garland Award, on March 9, 2010, at a luncheon at the LA84 Foundation. Wolper, chairman emeritus of the LA84 Foundation, was honored for his role in creating and directing the Opening Ceremony and Closing Ceremony of the 1984 Olympic Games. The award, presented by SCOGG President Barry Sanders, recognizes those who have given outstanding service to the Olympic Movement. Past recipients include Mayor Tom Bradley, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Juan Antonio Samaranch, John C. Argue, Peter Ueberroth, Anita L. DeFrantz, Harry Usher, Paul Ziffren, Barry Sanders and Lord Killanin.

The
LA84 Foundation is a direct legacy of the highly successful 1984 Los
Angeles Olympic Games. The 1984 Games defied expectations, featuring
stirring ceremonies, memorable sports performances, teams from a record-number
140 nations, innovative designs, thousands of dedicated volunteers and
smooth-running logistics. The Games also produced a surplus of $232.5
million. The United States Olympic Committee received 60 percent of
the surplus to fund athlete development programs. The remaining 40 percent
provided the endowment for the LA84 Foundation, which to date has invested
more than $185 million in youth sports in Southern California.
